Can dogs eat chicken soup?

Classic chicken soup is built on onion, celery, carrot, and garlic simmered in chicken stock, often with stock cubes and salt added. Chicken noodle soup adds noodles, and cream of chicken soup adds cream and flour. The onion and garlic flavor the whole pot.

Instant soup sachets are very salty and usually contain onion powder.

Simmer a skinless chicken breast in water with a few pieces of carrot for 20 to 30 minutes. Remove the chicken, shred it, and return it to the liquid. Skip salt, onion, garlic, and stock cubes. Cool it thoroughly and add a few tablespoons to your dog's food.

Keep it in the fridge for up to three days.

Many people instinctively reach for chicken soup when their dog is unwell. If your dog is vomiting, has diarrhea, or refuses food, the cause matters, and your vet may recommend a specific plan. Some illnesses need fluids, medication, or tests that soup cannot replace.

Soup made from a whole chicken or carcass contains cooked bones that become soft and brittle. Strain the soup carefully and remove all bones before any liquid or meat goes near your dog. Discard the bones in a closed outdoor bin. Cooked bones and gristle should never be left in the pot where a dog can reach them.
