When do puppies lose their baby teeth?

Incisors at the front of the mouth are typically the first to go, followed several weeks later by the canine teeth, and finally the premolars and molars further back, spreading the process across a few months rather than all at once.

Smaller breeds often complete the process a little earlier than large or giant breeds, whose overall development and growth generally runs on a slightly longer timeline in the first year.

A slight increase in drooling, small flecks of blood on toys, and finding a tiny tooth on the floor or in bedding are all normal parts of this window and rarely need any intervention beyond patience and appropriate chews.

Some puppies show barely any visible signs at all, simply losing teeth quietly without much apparent discomfort, while others seem noticeably more mouthy and unsettled for a week or two at a time. Both patterns are within the normal range, and there is no need to compare your puppy's experience against another dog's.

Keeping a rough note of when you first notice missing teeth can be genuinely useful context to share at a routine vet visit, particularly if you later want to check whether the process is progressing on the expected general timeline for your puppy's breed and size. A quick photo of any unusual finding, such as a tooth that looks odd, is a helpful thing to bring along too and saves trying to describe it from memory.
