A practical grooming routine for the Doberman Pinscher: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Grooming is quick. A rubber curry mitt once or twice a week lifts dead hair and spreads skin oils, and a wipe with a damp cloth brings back the shine. Most Dobermans need a bath only every couple of months unless they roll in something unpleasant. Shedding is light but steady, with a small increase in spring.
Nails grow fast on this breed and click loudly on hard floors, so trim or grind them every 2 to 3 weeks. Check the ears weekly, especially natural drop ears, which trap more moisture. Because the coat is thin, look over the skin after walks for scrapes or bumps, and use a fitted coat in cold, wet weather.
