Rottweiler grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Rottweiler: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The short, straight coat lies flat over a woolly undercoat on the neck and thighs. A rubber curry brush once a week keeps it tidy for most of the year, and the undercoat sheds more heavily for a few weeks in spring and autumn, when twice-weekly brushing helps. Bathing every two or three months is plenty unless your dog has rolled in something.
Nails grow quickly on a heavy dog and should be trimmed every three to four weeks, because long nails change how a big dog stands and add to joint strain. Check the ears weekly and wipe the folds of the lips if your dog drools after drinking. Brushing teeth a few times a week keeps breath and gums in better shape.
