German Wirehaired Pointer grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the German Wirehaired Pointer: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Compared with many wirehaired breeds, this coat is low maintenance. A weekly brush with a slicker or pin brush removes loose hair and debris. Some coats grow long and soft over time, and those benefit from light hand stripping two or three times a year to encourage fresh, harsh hair. Undercoat shedding is moderate and mostly seasonal.
Bathe only when needed, since frequent washing softens the texture. Trim the beard if it collects food, check ears weekly, and inspect the feet between the toes after field work. Nails need trimming every three to four weeks.
