The Gordon's silky coat needs brushing two or three times a week with a pin brush and comb, paying attention to the ears, armpits, chest and trousers, where mats form. During spring and autumn sheds, more frequent brushing helps manage loose hair. Bathing every 4 to 6 weeks keeps the coat shiny and clean.
Trimming hair under the feet, around the ears and on the hocks keeps the dog tidy and reduces burrs after walks. Check ears weekly, as the heavy flaps trap moisture. Trim nails every 3 to 4 weeks, and look over the coat for seeds and burrs after outings in fields.
