Harrier health: what owners should know

Harriers are generally healthy for a medium-sized dog. Conditions reported in the breed include hip dysplasia, some inherited eye disorders and ear infections linked to the long drop ears. Responsible breeders screen hips and eyes before breeding and can tell you about the health of related dogs, which is especially valuable in such a small population.

Keeping your dog lean and checking ears weekly are the most useful habits. See a vet if you notice limping that lasts more than a day or two, red or smelly ears, frequent head shaking, or signs that your dog is struggling to see in dim light.
