American Foxhound grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the American Foxhound: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Grooming is minimal. A weekly brush with a hound glove or rubber curry removes loose hair and keeps the coat glossy, and shedding is moderate all year. Bathe only when your hound has rolled in something, which, as a scent hound, it will.
Check ears weekly, since the long drop ears trap warmth, moisture and debris. Trim nails every 3 to 4 weeks unless your dog wears them down running on hard ground, and look over feet and pads after runs for cuts, thorns and grass seeds.
