Training a Briard: what works and what to expect

Briards learn quickly and remember everything, the good and the bad. They respond best to fair, consistent handlers who use rewards and set clear expectations; heavy-handed methods tend to produce resistance or distrust that lasts. They like a task to have a point and get bored with endless drilling.

Focus on socialization, calm greetings and teaching your dog that you decide who is a threat. Practice having visitors arrive and leave with a set routine and treats scattered on a mat. Some Briards try to control movement by herding, so reward settling on a bed and redirect the urge into structured games like treibball. Food, praise and simply being with you are all strong motivators.
