Black Russian Terrier puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates
How fast a Black Russian Terrier puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.
Black Russian puppies grow fast in the first six months, often gaining 3 to 4 kg (7 to 9 lb) a month, and reach most of their height by 12 to 14 months. Full bone, muscle and chest depth take until two or three years. Feed a large or giant-breed puppy formula and keep the puppy slim, since extra weight during growth strains developing joints.
Adolescence, from about 8 to 18 months, is when protective instincts start to show. Keep socializing throughout that period, not only in the first weeks at home. Avoid forced running, lots of stairs and jumping from heights until at least 18 months. A puppy that limps, stumbles, seems weak in the back legs or develops a hoarse, changed bark should see a vet.
