Black Russian Terrier grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Black Russian Terrier: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The coat sheds lightly but needs regular upkeep. Brush thoroughly once or twice a week with a slicker brush and a long-toothed comb, concentrating on the legs, beard and underside where mats start. Most owners also book a professional groomer every 6 to 8 weeks to scissor the coat into the breed's outline and keep length manageable.
Bathe as needed, typically every 4 to 8 weeks, and dry completely. Clean the beard daily. Trim nails every two to three weeks, have excess hair around the ear canal managed as your vet or groomer advises, and check the ears weekly for odor or redness. Teach a puppy to enjoy being groomed on a table early, because a reluctant 55 kg adult is very hard to handle.
