How much exercise does a Clumber Spaniel need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Clumber Spaniel enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Two unhurried walks totaling 45 to 60 minutes, with plenty of time to sniff, suit most adults. Clumbers enjoy tracking, gentle retrieving and scent games, and many enjoy a swim. They are not built for jogging, cycling alongside or long hill hikes.
Avoid exercise in hot weather, as the heavy build and thick coat make Clumbers prone to overheating. Watch for heavy panting, lagging behind or lying down on walks. An under-exercised Clumber gains weight and may get bored and mischievous, while overdoing it shows as stiffness the next day. If your dog is weak or does not recover after rest, contact a vet.
