Clumber Spaniel feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Clumber Spaniel.
Clumbers love food and pile on weight easily. A 35 kg (77 lb) adult with moderate activity may need around 330 to 430 g of dry food a day, roughly 3.5 to 4.5 cups, split into two meals. Neutered and older dogs often need less, so weigh portions rather than scooping by eye.
Weight matters more than usual in this breed, because extra kilos strain the long back, hips and elbows. Use part of the daily ration for training rewards, skip table scraps and check body shape monthly: you should feel ribs easily under a thin layer. A dog that has lost its waistline needs a smaller ration, not more walking alone.
Clumbers drool, especially around food, so a mat under the bowl and a towel nearby save your floors. A wide, heavy bowl suits their broad muzzle and cuts down spills, and a deep water bowl lets them drink without soaking their ears.
