Clumber Spaniel grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Clumber Spaniel: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Brush two or three times a week with a slicker brush and a comb to lift loose hair and keep the feathering free of tangles. Clumbers shed steadily all year, with heavier spells in spring and autumn. Trim the hair between the toes and around the feet so mud and seeds do not collect, and bathe every 1 to 2 months to keep the white coat bright.
The long, heavy ears need checking and cleaning weekly, and the loose lower eyelids should be wiped gently to clear any discharge. Keep a towel handy for drool. Trim nails every 3 to 4 weeks and check the lip folds around the mouth for trapped moisture and redness.
