Training an Entlebucher Mountain Dog: what works and what to expect

Entlebuchers are bright and quick to learn, but they are not pushovers. They were bred to make their own decisions around livestock, so they can be independent and occasionally stubborn. Reward-based training with clear rules, lots of variety and short sessions works best. Harsh correction damages trust with this sensitive breed and often makes stubbornness worse.

Early socialization is essential because of their natural wariness with strangers. Introduce your puppy to many people, places and sounds in a calm, positive way through the first months and keep it going through adolescence. Redirect heel nipping into tug or chase games with a toy, and teach a solid settle on a mat so your Entle learns to switch off indoors.
