Training a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon: what works and what to expect

Cooperative, sensitive and eager to please, the Griffon is often described as one of the easiest pointing breeds to train. Calm, consistent, reward-based methods work best; harsh corrections tend to make them anxious or hesitant.

The main challenge is the nose. Interesting scents can pull a young dog away, so start recall training early and practice in many different settings. Channel the instincts into structured games such as retrieving and scent searches, which are highly motivating, and socialize puppies widely with people, dogs and new places.
