Training a Finnish Spitz: what works and what to expect

Bred to work alone and make its own decisions, the Finnish Spitz is intelligent but not naturally obedient. Repetitive drills bore it quickly. Keep training varied, playful and reward based, and expect a thoughtful pause rather than instant compliance.

Barking management starts in puppyhood. Reward quiet moments, teach a paired speak and quiet cue, and avoid leaving the dog alone for long periods, which often triggers barking. A Finkie that is mentally occupied with food puzzles and sniffing games barks noticeably less.
