Japanese Chin puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates
How fast a Japanese Chin puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.
Chin puppies grow quickly for about 6 months and then slow sharply, reaching adult size at 9 to 12 months. Many weigh only around 1 kg at 10 weeks, so they are genuinely fragile: a fall from a sofa or a child's arms can break a leg.
Very small puppies can struggle to keep their blood sugar steady if they miss meals, so feed three or four small meals a day until about 4 months. Supervise stairs and furniture, and show everyone in the house how to lift the puppy with one hand under the chest and one under the rear. A pup that suddenly turns weak, wobbly or unusually sleepy needs a vet straight away.
