Yorkshire Terrier puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates
How fast a Yorkshire Terrier puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.
Yorkie puppies grow quickly and then stop early. Most of their height is in place by about six months, and they are usually at adult weight somewhere between nine and twelve months. A puppy that weighs around 1 kg at twelve weeks will often finish close to 2.5 to 3 kg, though parents' weights are a better guide than any chart.
Keep an eye on the mouth during this stage. Yorkies often hold on to baby teeth after the adult ones arrive, which leaves two teeth in one space and traps food. Ask your vet to check the mouth at the six-month visit. Also watch for a puppy that stays much smaller than its littermates, seems dull after meals or acts oddly, and get it examined promptly.
