Known issues in the breed include eye problems such as entropion and dry eye, skin cysts and follicular tumors, a hereditary bleeding disorder called factor XI deficiency and a rare neurological disease that affects young dogs. Responsible breeders screen eyes, use available DNA tests and are open about health in their lines.

Check the skin for lumps during grooming, keep the eyes clean and keep your Kerry at a healthy weight. See a vet if you notice new lumps or bumps, red or cloudy eyes, unusual bleeding or bruising, wobbliness or loss of coordination in a young dog.
