Kerry Blue Terrier grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Kerry Blue Terrier: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Brush the coat thoroughly two or three times a week with a slicker brush and a metal comb, reaching right down to the skin. Pay particular attention to the beard, the legs, the armpits and behind the ears, where mats form fastest. Loose hair stays in the coat rather than falling out, so skipping brushing for a week can lead to tangles that must be clipped out.
Every 6 to 8 weeks, the coat needs clipping and scissoring to keep its shape: shorter on the body and head, with a longer fall over the eyes, beard and leg furnishings. Many owners use a professional groomer familiar with terrier trims; others learn to do it themselves. Bathe before each trim, check the ears for hair buildup and trim the fur between the pads.
