Kooikerhondje grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Kooikerhondje: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The coat is low-fuss for a feathered breed. A weekly brush with a pin brush and comb, paying attention to the feathering behind the ears, on the legs and on the tail, keeps it free of tangles. Shedding is moderate, with heavier drops once or twice a year.
Bathe only when needed; the coat sheds dirt well once dry. Trim hair between the paw pads, keep nails short with a trim every 3 to 4 weeks, and check inside the ears weekly. Owners who plan to show should leave the black ear-tip feathering, the earrings, untrimmed.
