Mini Schnauzer puppies grow quickly and are close to adult height by about 8 or 9 months. Most look fully grown at 12 months, though some keep filling out through the chest until 15 months. As a rough guide, a pup weighing 2.5 kg at 12 weeks will often finish somewhere around 7 to 8 kg.
Puppy coats are soft and fluffy, and the harsh adult texture comes in gradually from about 6 months. Handle feet, beard and ears gently from the first week at home, and book a short introductory groomer visit by 16 weeks so the table and clippers become ordinary. A growing pup that skips on a hind leg or holds it up for a few steps should be checked by a vet, since small breeds can have loose kneecaps.
