Saluki grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Saluki: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Grooming is refreshingly simple. Brush the silky coat once a week and comb through the feathering on the ears, tail and legs to stop tangles. Smooth Salukis need only a quick rub with a soft mitt. Shedding is light, and most Salukis have little doggy odor, so baths are only needed occasionally.
Their thin skin can tear on branches, wire or during rough play, so check the body after a run. Trim nails every three weeks, since long nails affect the grip of these fast dogs. Keep the ears clean, and use a snood at mealtimes to keep the feathering out of food and water.
