Basenji grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Basenji: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Grooming is about as easy as it gets. Basenjis lick themselves clean much like a cat and carry very little odor. A weekly once-over with a rubber mitt removes loose hair and spreads natural oils, and baths are needed only a few times a year or after rolling in something.
Nails grow quickly and many Basenjis dislike having their feet handled, so start short, rewarding nail sessions in puppyhood and trim every two to three weeks. Brush teeth several times a week and check the upright ears weekly for dirt or redness.
