The Griffon is generally a healthy breed. Known predispositions include hip and elbow dysplasia, eyelid problems such as entropion and ectropion, and ear infections, particularly in dogs that swim often. Responsible breeders X-ray hips and elbows and have eyes examined before breeding.
Regular ear checks, a lean body and sensible exercise during growth all help. Get your dog checked by a vet if it limps for more than a day or two, squints or has red, weepy eyes, shakes its head or has a smelly ear, or seems sore after exercise.
