Azawakh grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Azawakh: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The coat is so short that grooming takes minutes: a wipe with a soft cloth or rubber mitt once a week and a bath only when dirty. Shedding is minimal and there is no doggy odor to speak of. Because the skin is thin and bony points prominent, soft padded bedding prevents pressure calluses on elbows and hips.
Nails deserve more attention than the coat. Long nails change how a fast dog lands and can be torn during sprinting, so trim or grind every two to three weeks. Check feet after running on rough ground, brush teeth several times a week, and protect sparsely haired skin from strong sun if your dog is pale-colored.
