How much exercise does an Azawakh need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities an Azawakh enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Around 60 minutes of daily exercise, including the chance to sprint in a securely fenced area at least a few times a week, suits most adults. Azawakhs enjoy lure coursing, racing and long walks, and many will run in joyful circles for a few minutes and then want to sleep for hours. Keep them on lead in open spaces; prey drive is high, and at full speed they are gone in seconds.
Heat rarely troubles them, but cold does. Below about 10 °C (50 °F) many Azawakhs need a coat, and in freezing weather walks should be short. Signs of too little activity include pacing, restlessness and destructive boredom, while soreness, torn nails and pad injuries point to a session that was too long or on rough ground.
