Bearded Collie grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Bearded Collie: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Set aside at least an hour a week for line brushing: part the coat into small sections and brush each one from the skin outward with a pin brush, then follow with a wide-toothed comb. Misting the coat lightly with water first reduces breakage. Start behind the ears, under the legs and across the chest, where mats form first.
Bathe every four to eight weeks, and always brush out tangles beforehand, because water tightens mats into felt. Dry thoroughly with a towel and a dryer on a cool setting. Trim the hair between the pads and around the feet to reduce mud balls, check the ears weekly and clip nails every two to three weeks. Many pet owners opt for a shorter all-over trim for easier care; it grows back if you change your mind.
