Groenendaels reach most of their height by 10 to 12 months but keep filling out through the chest until about two years, and the full coat and ruff often aren't complete until age three. Mentally they mature slowly, and adolescence, roughly 7 to 20 months, can bring sudden wariness of things the puppy used to ignore.
Keep puppies lean, allow free play on soft ground, and hold back on repetitive jumping and full-height agility until the growth plates close, usually around 14 to 18 months. Gentle foundations such as body awareness, balance work and short focus games are ideal in this period. A puppy that limps for more than a day, bunny-hops with the back legs or seems stiff after rest should be checked by a vet.
