How much exercise does a Belgian Groenendael need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Belgian Groenendael enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Plan on 1.5 to 2 hours of activity a day for an adult, and make at least part of it mental. Groenendaels thrive in agility, obedience, tracking, herding trials, protection sports and canicross. A long walk alone rarely satisfies them, while 20 minutes of training or scent work often tires them more than an hour of plodding.
Under-exercised dogs pace, spin, bark at movement through windows and may nip at heels. Overdoing it is less common but possible in young dogs obsessed with the ball, so limit repetitive fetch and build fitness gradually. In warm weather the black coat soaks up heat, so train early in the day and stop if panting becomes heavy and doesn't settle.
