Belgian Tervuren grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Belgian Tervuren: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Brush thoroughly once or twice a week with a pin brush and an undercoat rake, working through the ruff, the feathering behind the legs and the tail. Most Tervurens drop their undercoat once or twice a year, and daily brushing for 2 to 3 weeks during that time keeps tufts from drifting around the house. Unspayed females often shed heavily after each season.
Never shave the coat, which insulates against both cold and sun. Bathe only every couple of months or after a very muddy outing, and dry thoroughly so moisture does not sit under the thick ruff. Tidy the hair between the pads and around the feet, trim nails every 3 to 4 weeks, and look inside the ears once a week.
