How much exercise does a Belgian Tervuren need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Belgian Tervuren enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Plan on roughly 2 hours of activity a day for an adult: a long walk or run, plus a focused training or sport session. Tervurens are made for agility, herding, obedience, tracking, flyball and canicross, and most will happily try the lot. Brain work counts as much as legwork, and 15 minutes of shaping a new behavior can tire one as much as a 40-minute walk.
An under-occupied Tervuren shows it quickly through pacing, spinning, chewing, barking at movement, or herding people by nipping at their heels. Overdoing it is less common but possible with young or unfit dogs, so watch for stiffness, sore pads or reluctance to start the next day. A good routine also includes calm time, because this breed often needs to be taught how to switch off.
