Boerboel grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Boerboel: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The coat is about as simple as it gets. A rubber curry brush once a week, followed by a wipe with a damp cloth, keeps it clean and glossy. Shedding is light to moderate, a little heavier in spring. Most need a bath only every 2 to 3 months.
Nails, teeth and ears need more attention than the coat. Get puppies used to having their paws handled and nails clipped long before they weigh 60 kg. Check the lips and any skin folds for irritation, wipe away drool after meals, and look inside the ears weekly. Heavy dogs lying on hard floors develop elbow calluses, so provide a thick, supportive bed.
