Bloodhound puppies grow remarkably fast, sometimes gaining more than 1 kg a week at their peak between three and six months. Most reach their full height at 12 to 15 months, but they keep adding muscle and bone until two years or later, and many still behave like adolescents at three. A large-breed puppy food with controlled calcium supports steady rather than rushed growth.
Protect the joints while they develop. Keep puppies lean, avoid long stair runs, jumping from the car and forced running on hard ground, and let the pup set the pace on walks. Loose skin makes a young Bloodhound look heavier than it is, so judge condition by feeling for ribs under the skin rather than by eye.
