Boerboel puppies grow large and fast, often reaching 30 to 40 kg (66 to 88 lb) by 6 months. Height is largely in place by about 18 months, but muscle, chest and head keep developing until around 2.5 to 3 years, and behavior matures on the same slow timetable. A teenage Boerboel can look like an adult while still thinking like a puppy.
Feed a large or giant-breed puppy diet, keep your pup lean, and avoid forced exercise, stairs and jumping from vehicles while growth plates are open. Watch for lameness, a bunny-hopping gait at the back or a pup that struggles to stand, and have these checked by a vet rather than waiting for them to pass. This is also the window where socialization matters most: every calm, positive meeting with people now builds a steadier adult.
