Tibetan Mastiff puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates

How fast a Tibetan Mastiff puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.

Tibetan Mastiffs grow slowly compared with many giant breeds. Puppies may weigh 15 to 20 kg at 4 months and around 35 to 45 kg at a year, but males often keep maturing until 3 or even 4 years old, and females until about 2 or 3. Adolescence can be long, with bursts of stubbornness and testing of boundaries.

Feed a large or giant-breed puppy food and keep growth steady, with the puppy lean rather than round. Limit forced exercise such as long runs, repetitive stairs and jumping until the growth plates close around 18 months. Persistent limping, sudden reluctance to move or pain when a leg is touched are signs to see a vet.
