Chinese Crested feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Chinese Crested.
Somewhere around 60 to 90 g of dry food a day, about 0.6 to 0.9 cups, suits a 4.5 kg Crested, divided into two or three small meals. Tiny dogs burn through energy quickly, and a regular schedule avoids long gaps that leave them shaky or grumpy.
Teeth shape the diet more than in most breeds. Many hairless Cresteds are missing premolars or lose teeth early, which makes crunching large kibble hard work. A small-bite kibble, food softened with a little warm water, or part of the ration as wet food can make meals easier. Dropping food, chewing on one side or pawing at the mouth are signs to book a dental check with your vet.
A shallow, stable bowl suits the breed's small muzzle, and Powderpuff owners may prefer one with a narrow opening so the long ear and beard hair stays dry.
