Crested puppies grow quickly and usually reach adult size by 9 to 10 months, with muscle and coat developing further until about 12 to 15 months. In Powderpuffs the adult coat arrives gradually, and the first big coat change, around 9 to 12 months, brings a spell of heavy matting that needs daily attention.
Hairless puppies often go through a teenage phase of blackheads and spots as the skin matures, not unlike human adolescence. Keep the skin clean and avoid heavy creams that clog pores. If spots become red, swollen or crusty, or the skin develops sores that do not heal within a few days, have a vet examine it rather than trying to fix it yourself.
