Coton de Tulear grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Coton de Tulear: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
In full coat, brush every day using line brushing: part the hair in layers and brush from the skin outward with a pin brush, then check each area with a wide-toothed comb. Never brush a dry, dirty coat, which snaps the hair; mist it lightly with water or a grooming spray first. Bathe every two to three weeks and blow-dry completely, because air-dried cotton hair tangles more.
Trim the hair between the paw pads, keep the area around the eyes and the hygiene region short, and clean around the eyes daily to reduce staining. Nails need trimming every three weeks or so. Many pet owners choose a teddy-style cut of 3 to 5 cm, which cuts daily work to a few minutes but still needs brushing several times a week.
