Silky Terrier grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Silky Terrier: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The fine, single coat does not shed much, but it tangles easily. Brush thoroughly three or four times a week with a pin brush and a fine-toothed comb, paying attention to behind the ears and under the legs. Some owners keep the coat long and parted along the back, while others prefer a shorter pet trim for easier care.
Bathe every two to four weeks with a gentle shampoo and a light conditioner, and dry the coat fully to prevent tangles. Keep the hair around the eyes trimmed or tied back, since long hair can irritate them. Trim nails every few weeks and brush teeth daily, because small mouths are prone to plaque buildup.
