Affenpinscher grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Affenpinscher: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The harsh coat is meant to look slightly untidy, and it does not need heavy grooming. Brush and comb two or three times a week, paying attention to the beard, eyebrows and legs, where tangles form. Shedding is light.
Every few months the coat benefits from being hand-stripped or plucked to keep its texture, or neatened with scissors if you prefer. Clipping makes the coat softer and less weatherproof. Trim hair around the eyes so it does not poke them, wash the beard often, trim nails every 3 weeks, and brush teeth several times a week because small mouths are prone to tartar.
