Dalmatian feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Dalmatian.
Dalmatians have an unusual metabolism. Almost all of them carry a gene variant that sends high levels of uric acid into the urine instead of breaking it down further, which makes urate stones more likely. For everyday feeding, that means a complete diet that is moderate in purines, and not making a habit of treats such as liver, kidney, game, sardines or anchovies. Ask your vet whether a particular diet suits your dog, especially if it is male, since males are more prone to blockages.
Water is the other half of the plan, because dilute urine makes it harder for crystals to form. Put several water bowls around the house, offer fresh water after every walk, and consider soaking dry food with a little water. An active 25 kg adult usually eats about 320 to 420 g of dry food a day, roughly 3 to 4 cups, split into two meals. Adjust by body shape rather than the bag: you want a visible waist and ribs you can feel without pressing.

Puppy portions need measured weight, growth stage and the food’s energy content. A breed-average curve is not a feeding plan. Calculate with measured inputs and review the result with your vet.
