Dandie Dinmont Terrier feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Dandie Dinmont Terrier.
An adult Dandie of about 9 kg (20 lb) usually eats around 110 to 150 g of dry food daily, roughly 1.2 to 1.5 cups, split into two meals. Needs vary with activity, and many Dandies are less active than they look. Keep portions measured, as extra weight puts more strain on the long back.
You should be able to feel the ribs easily through the coat and see a slight waist. Because the coat can hide weight gain, run your hands over the body every couple of weeks. A floor-level, wide bowl suits this low-built dog well.
The topknot and facial hair can trail into food and water. Some owners tie up long face hair or trim around the mouth, and wipe the face after meals to prevent staining and matting.
