Löwchen feeding guide: how much and how often

A 6 kg (13 lb) adult Löwchen typically needs about 80 to 110 g of a typical dry food a day, around 1 cup, split into two meals. Small dogs need more energy per kilo than big ones, but because portions are tiny, a few cubes of cheese or a handful of training treats can tip the balance quickly. Count every extra and trim the main meals on heavy training days.
A small kibble suits the mouth, and a shallow, wide bowl keeps the ear fringes and facial hair cleaner than a deep, narrow one. Wiping the mouth after meals prevents staining in pale dogs. Most Löwchen eat well, but some turn fussy once they learn that ignoring the bowl brings better offers; leaving food down for 15 minutes and then lifting it usually fixes this within a few days.
