Sealyham Terrier feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Sealyham Terrier.
A Sealyham of about 9 kg (20 lb) typically eats 130 to 160 g of dry food a day, about 1.25 to 1.5 cups, divided into two meals. The breed loves food and turns rotund easily, which strains the long back and short legs. Measure meals, use part of the ration for training and ask your vet to score body condition at each check-up.
The beard soaks up food and water, which can stain and smell. A wide, shallow bowl in stainless steel or ceramic keeps the face drier, and a quick wipe or rinse of the beard after meals keeps it fresh. A very deep water bowl drenches the whole face, so pick a moderate depth. Some Sealyhams develop itchy skin linked to diet or environment; if scratching or paw licking persists, speak to your vet before trying food after food.
