How much exercise does a Dogue de Bordeaux need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Dogue de Bordeaux enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Most adults do well on 45 to 60 minutes a day, taken as a couple of steady walks plus some gentle play. Dogues are powerful but not built for endurance, and they tire quickly. They enjoy exploring a new route at their own pace, short tugging games in a secure garden, and, once mature and properly conditioned, light cart pulling.
Heat is genuinely dangerous for this breed. In summer walk only in the coolest part of the day, carry water, and stop at the first sign of heavy, noisy breathing or a long, wide, flat tongue. On hot days, skip the walk and play calm scent games indoors instead. Too little exercise has its own costs, though: an under-exercised Dogue gains weight, loses muscle that protects its joints, and can become bored and destructive.
