How much exercise does an English Mastiff need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities an English Mastiff enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Adult Mastiffs usually need about 30 to 60 minutes of gentle activity a day, split into two or three walks. They enjoy sniffing routes and slow ambles far more than fetch. Some take part in carting or obedience at a relaxed pace, and many love simple scent games in the garden.
Heat is the main hazard. Walk early and late in warm weather, carry water, and stop if the dog pants hard with a wide, flat tongue. Too little exercise leads to weight gain and weak muscles, which makes joint trouble worse, so even a lazy Mastiff needs a daily walk. A dog that lies down mid-walk and refuses to move is usually telling you it is too hot or too tired.
