How much exercise does an Anatolian Shepherd need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities an Anatolian Shepherd enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
An adult Anatolian typically needs 45 to 60 minutes of activity a day, but the kind of activity matters more than the amount. These dogs are not ball chasers. They prefer steady walking, time outdoors in a large enclosed area, and the job of watching over a property. Many naturally walk the boundary several times a day and rest in between.
Fencing should be tall, solid and regularly checked, ideally at least 1.8 m (6 ft), and some owners bury wire along the base to discourage digging. Off-lead walks in open country are risky, because recall is often unreliable and the dog may challenge people or dogs it considers intruders. A long line in quiet areas gives freedom safely. Restlessness, digging and fence running are signs the dog needs more to do.
