How much exercise does a Bullmastiff need?

Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Bullmastiff enjoys and signs of too much or too little.

Two walks of 20 to 30 minutes plus some play in the garden are enough for most adults. Bullmastiffs enjoy strolling and sniffing more than running, and short bursts of fetch or tug keep them engaged. Many also enjoy simple scent games or a relaxed obedience class.

Heat is the main danger. The short muzzle and heavy body make cooling down hard, so walk early and late in summer and keep outings short on warm days. Heavy panting with a wide, flat tongue, stumbling or lying down and refusing to move are signs to stop, get into shade and cool the dog, then call a vet if it does not recover quickly. Under-exercised dogs, on the other hand, put on weight and can become pushy or bored.
